In the early morning hours of August 29, 2023, the Powell Police Department received a 911 call that sounded like a twisted psychological game. 27-year-old Chance Donohoe was on the line, calmly notifying dispatchers that he had just taken the life of his ex-girlfriend, Shannon Hiott.
While police rushed to the scene and discovered a brutal living room crime scene, Donohoe was intercepted at a nearby gas station with blood covering his clothes. What followed inside the Franklin County Jail interrogation room remains one of the most chilling displays of a “god complex” ever captured on tape. Donohoe spoke with complete emotional detachment, claiming he targeted Shannon to “absorb her spirit” and escape an active stalking loop—a narrative his own mother initially supported before neighbor surveillance loops exposed Chance as the true predator.
In July 2024, Donohoe avoided a capital trial by pleading guilty to aggravated murder and abuse of a corpse. He is currently serving life at the Pickaway Correctional Institution.
