Five-year-old Lucas Hernandez went missing from his home in Wichita Kansas February 17th, 2018. He was last seen around 3:00 p.m. in his bedroom, wearing a grey shirt with a bear on it, black sweats, and white socks. His shoes and jacket were left at his house. Lucas lives with his bio father Jonathan Hernandez, is fathers girlfriend Emily Glass, and his little sister.
His father works out of town and is gone for several days at a time. While his father is away working Lucas is in the care of Emily. Emily claims that she last saw Lucas in his room around 3:00. She said she took a shower and laid down for a nap. When she woke at 6:00 p.m. Lucas was missing. She then ran to her neighbors’ house alerting them that Lucas was missing. She then called 911.
LE searched a local park as Emily’s cell phone pinged in that area prior to Lucas being reported missing. There was also a span of about 45 minutes where Emily had her cell phone turned off. Five days after Lucas went missing Emily was charged with two counts of child endangerment. These counts were for the day before Lucas went missing. One count of child endangerment was dropped before her court appearance.
Meanwhile, Lucas’s bio mother who had joint custody of Lucas came to town. His mother resides in a different state and it’s not completely clear to the public the child custody arrangements that they had. Law enforcement has been very tight lipped on their investigation. In most cases when a child goes missing search parties made up of volunteers from the community, in this case LE has opted out of asking for public assistance in searching for Lucas.
Although LE hasn’t asked for public assistance many locals have gathered together to re-search a location that has already been searched by LE. The search didn’t result in any new clues to the whereabouts of Lucas but LE did have personal there on hand in case a citizen found something of interest.
Tim Miller, Founder of Texas EquuSearch has joined the search for Lucas. According to the Texas EquuSearch website on March 2nd, they will be posting details soon regarding their command center and search plan.
